What is Hair Mineral Analysis?

Hair Mineral Analysis (HMA) is a soft tissue mineral biopsy. A biopsy is an analysis of a body tissue, and in this
particular case, is used to detect mineral levels.

One of the amazing things about Hair Mineral Analysis is how much the hair can reveal about your health – it takes the guesswork out of recommending diet and nutritional products.

Hair is classified as a soft tissue of the body. Hair analysis provides a reading of the mineral deposition in the cell
and interstitial spaces of the hair over a two to three month period. This test does not provide an assessment of the

How do I know that Hair Mineral Analysis is reliable?

Hundreds of papers have been published on the subject of tissue mineral testing. Mineral analysis is a standard
testing method used at laboratories and universities around the world.
Many papers have been written regarding the accuracy and efficacy of testing for toxic metals.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency published a 300 page study where they reviewed over 400 medical reports on hair testing. The authors concluded that hair is a “meaningful and representative tissue for biological monitoring
for most of the toxic metals.

Commercial hair testing on humans has been carried out for over 25 years with well over 1 million tests having
been performed.

The required amount of hair sample is taken from the back of the head in clinic and is then sent to Doctors Data
Laboratories for analysis and within 2 weeks the results are obtained and discussed with the patient.

The results will show a deficiency or an accumulation of trace minerals, macro minerals and heavy metals. The
