IBS
How do I know I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?
IBS is a very common condition of the digestive system affecting over a million people in this country. If you have any symptoms from either your stomach or your gut, such as stomach gramps, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating and many other such like symptoms, then yes, you will have a condition called IBS.
IBS is not a single symptom condition. It’s a gastrointestinal disorder without a single cause. There is no one single successful treatment other than dietary intervention which can be swift, healthy and pain free.
The affect of IBS on ones social life is also distressing as one needs to be constantly aware of the changing patterns of bowel movements, restricting travel and other social occasions for fear of embarrassing episodes. These symptoms can go on for years with little help and in most cases never go away. But all is not lost. The onus is on the identification of what food or foods are causing these symptoms and their eradication to promote relief from this chronic and debilitating condition.
